About Scouting411

Scouting411 is the unofficial front page of Scouting America. It gathers the news and resources that Scouting America publishes at the national level and puts them in one place, so that you can see everything at once instead of checking a dozen sites to find out what changed.

Official Scouting information is scattered. It lives across program blogs, newsrooms, committee publications, and PDF libraries, each with its own site, its own update schedule, and its own idea of how to notify you. Plenty of it is genuinely useful and almost none of it is easy to find. This site exists to fix that. It does not replace any of those sources; it pulls everything together into a central hub and puts the data into one accessible format.

Where the data comes from

Everything here is published by Scouting America. Scouting411 does not write news or create resources of its own; it collects, organizes, and links back to the original, which is always the national, authoritative version.

News is pulled automatically from official feeds and refreshed once a day, so an item may be up to 24 hours behind its source. You can see every feed being tracked on the sources page, and how much has been collected from each on the stats page. The resources directory works differently. It is a hand-curated list of official tools, resources, and websites, chosen to surface the things you will find useful.

Inclusion is limited to official Scouting America publications at the national level. Nothing from councils, districts, units, or third parties is listed, however good it may be, because the goal of this site is to give you official, canonical information. The full criteria are in the project README. If something official is missing, suggest it.

Who runs this

I'm a Scoutmaster. I built Scouting411 because I kept losing track of announcements that mattered to my unit, and because the answer to "where was that published?" was never the same place twice. It is a volunteer project, and it is free.

The site is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. You can read the code, file an issue, or send a pull request on GitHub.

Scouting411 is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Scouting America. All trademarks and published content belong to their respective owners. This is an independent project, and any mistake you find here is mine rather than theirs. If you spot one, please report it.
